Teaching Philosophy

I have developed the habit of updating my teaching philosophy every couple of years. I enjoy the process of putting my thoughts about teaching into words, but I have always had this nagging frustration in the back of my mind. There are really two things I want to write about in my teaching philosophy, and they cannot fit elegantly in one document. Thus, I include two documents to explain my teaching.

The first document is entitled ``What Mathematicians Do''. It explains my view of the activities of mathematicians and how I tie these activities in with the teaching of mathematics. The document then summarizes how I incorporate these activities in my mathematics classes. The second document is entitled ``What a Mathematician Has to Offer''. It explains my view of the role of mathematics in the general education of my students and how I hope my mathematics classes impact my students' lives beyond the classroom.

I hope you find them enlightening.
