Web page authors can assure a move command generates the correct view by executing a reset or a view restore command to bring the image back to a prescribed orientation prior to the move.  The execution of a reset prior to a move causes an instantaneous reorientation of the image which disorients the user and discourages interactive use, one of Chime's most important features.    To illustrate this effect, randomly adjust the view of the image with the mouse, and press the Reset/Move button.

The MoveTo function provides a new way to animate the molecule on the screen which allows the user to manipulate molecules at will, while still allowing Chime page authors to animate the the image from any current orientation to generate a desired view. Furthermore, authors can use our MoveTo Utility page to generate the move command needed to accomplish any animation without having to implement the MoveTo scripts in your own pages.

To illustrate the MoveTo feature, use the mouse to rotate, translate, and zoom the myoglobin image to any orientation you want. Then press the MoveTo button. The image should move to the oxygen binding site as before. Try any orientation you want. The MoveTo button will always get you back to the same view of the oxygen binding site.  The text box below the image shows the original and desired orientation of the molecule, and the move command that was calculated by the MoveTo function.

Hey, That's pretty neat.
Tell me how it works.
