Alcohol Stove Performance Calculator

This worksheet allows you to calculate the performance of an alcohol stove based on test data. You need to measure the initial water temperature, the water temperature when the fuel burns out, and the time it takes to burn out. For the test to work, you need to select volumes of fuel and water so that the fuel burns out before the water boils (try 15 mL of fuel and 24 oz of water). The calculations assume constant heat production from the stove for the duration of the burn. Enter data in either set of units. The spreadsheet automatically calculates the other. The energy density of the fuel is estimated based on the type of fuel selected (or you may enter energy density manually). Note: HEET (yellow bottle) is mostly methanol, Klean Strip Green is mostly ethanol, and SLX denatured alcohol is about a 50/50 mixture.
