Area of a Parallelogram

You may have heard that the area formula for a parallelogram is the same as for a rectangle.

That must be absurd, right? How could shapes that are as different as that have the same area formula?

This sketch lets you pick the height and base of the parallelogram and then you can make the slantiness of it as extreme as you want.
