SUCCESS focuses on student achievement by increasing teacher understanding of content, curriculum development, assessment, and instruction in English/language arts and social studies. The SUCCESS implementation plan follows NSDC Standards for Staff Development and research staff development practices. Through workshops, classroom observations, and electronic discussion, teachers from Burton, Riverside, Westwood, and Lee Middle Schools will participate in learning communities which focus on developing deeply aligned curricular units. The workshop will use Michigan standards in both language arts and social studies as well as the 5-E instructional model. GVSU faculty will use research-based instructional strategies and will assist teachers in their efforts to make a difference in student achievement.
