Dream Journal (excerpt)

I dreamt that I was fishing with my Rita Mae out on Lake Michigan. The water was clear enough that we were able to see the bottom. Suddenly, a fish swam right beside the boat and Rita Mae jumped into the water after the fish. Instantaneously, the fish swallowed Rita Mae whole and swam away. I was devastated by the event that took place and demanded that the owner of the boat follow the fish that swallowed her. The man informed me that I would see Rita Mae again. He continued by explaining that it was her destiny to be swallowed by the fish. When the boat reached the shore, I immediately jumped off the search for Rita Mae. I suddenly spotted the fish washing up in the surf. When I reached the fish, he spit a cocoon out of his mouth and turned around and swam back into Lake Michigan. The cocoon opened and out flew a beautiful butterfly. The man from the boat explained to me that Rita Mae transformed into the butterfly that was now resting on my shoulder. Saddened by the transformation, I cupped her in my hands and began walking home. When I returned home, I went into my room and set Rita Mae on top of my dresser. I explained to her not to leave the dresser until I had returned from work.

I recall entering a white room. As I peered up towards the corner of the wall, I observed a bundle of balloons. All of the balloons were black except for one. The other balloon was white. The balloons looked as if they were made out of some sort of ceramic material. I remember questioning how these balloons were able to float if they were made of a material such as this. My father entered the room and asked me what the significance of the balloons was. As I began to cry, I explained to him that all of the black balloons represented the pain and despair which I have endured. I went on to explain that the single white balloon was a symbol of the hope which I wish to attain in my life.
