Brief Biography

I am currently an Associate Professor of Photography and Visual/Media studies in the School of Communications at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. I earned a B.S. in Physics from the University of Dallas and an M.F.A. in Photography from Washington University in Saint Louis. Until the age of 18, I lived in the shadow of the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant in Colorado.

In addition to teaching, I have lived and worked in Rome, Italy as a freelance photographer, and worked as a commercial advertising photographer in several midwest studios.

Photographs from this project are included in the Midwest Photographer's Project Collection at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, and have been exhibited throughout the United States.
