Section 1

You are seeing 65 y/o Mrs. Laura Leavitt in your role as a Case Manager for the Area Agency on Aging (AAA).  Mrs. Leavitt is the primary caregiver for her 75 y/o husband.  In the last year, Mr. Smith has been diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s disease.  He has been treated for manic depression for over 20 years.  Mrs. Leavitt also uses the AAA Caregiver support group that meets monthly.  The couple has two sons, Paul and Aaron.  Paul has been somewhat estranged from Mr. Leavitt and Aaron only comes by infrequently.

Today you drop by Mrs. Leavitt’s house.  Mr. Leavitt is resting and Mrs. Leavitt is waiting for their son Aaron to come by.  You note that she looks a bit upset so you reflect that back to her.  She tells you that the other day she got so frustrated and angry caring for Mr. Leavitt that she pushed him yelled at him and forced him to go to the bedroom for a while.  After she says this, she looks up at you fearfully.
