The Woman as Tall as a Tree

By: Kyle Shutz

Back when I wasn’t even tall enough to ride the Dumbo Ride at Cedar Point I had a teacher named Mrs. D. She was the meanest teacher I have ever had and she was my kindergarten teacher, which isn’t usually true for most people. She had probably had dinner with George Washington and she was as tall as a good-sized tree. Every day she would yell at some unfortunate child and we would sit there and wonder if we would be the next victims or if the person next to us would be yelled at. She would make us sit out in the cold hallway to eat our snacks because she said that she didn’t want ants to come in the room. Sometimes it would be so cold in the hallway that we had to wear our coats just because the teacher thought that ant would come in the room. We also had to be sitting in the hall against the wall 5 minutes before the bell rang in a straight line like we were in the army or something.

During that year I got shoes that I thought were really cool because they lighted up and made noises whenever you took a step. She told me that I had to take them off because they made too much noise and they were distracting which made my face turn beet red and I was embarrassed for the rest of the week. She also ruined my birthday one-year because I had the same birthday as another girl in the class and she got to wear the birthday crown because they only had one so no one really knew it was my birthday. I was really glad to go on to 1st grade.
