I Had No Voice…

by Michelle VandenBerg

Kicking my legs under the table with my big plate of nasty food sitting in front of me, I stared at my big family with wide eyes, just watching them.

"So how was work today, Tom?"

"It was awful, almost as bad as trying to teach Michelle the ABC’s"

"UGH! Tom! No fair! You’re mean…."

"Michelle, calm down."

"Wow that sucks!"

"Hopefully things will go better for you tomorrow!"

"I’m sure they wont. Joe, you guys know him, he’s my boss’ boss…well he got pissed today and yelled at everyone because Krissy and Bob broke one the plant’s machines, again. It was awful."

"Oh no…"

Finally, I just raised my hand so I could get a chance to talk.

"In school today"…when Tom cut me off.

"Great story, Mini, but NO ONE CARES!"

"Yeah really."

"So Dan? How was your day at school today?"

"Yeah, anything cool or interesting happen?"

"I don’t know…fine I guess…"

"Oh, okay."

Then mom says something under her breath so everyone but me could hear it.

"What? Tell me! I wanna know, too!"

"No, Ed E. It!" (My nickname from my brother Ross)

"You don’t need to know, no one cares about you."

"Yeah, besides, its nothing special, don’t worry about it."
