Stockbridge to Scale
On March 14, the group held a public event/performance at the studio
in which we attempted to collaborate directly with the neighborhood.
We gathered found materials from the area and invited visitors to do
the same. Using a large aerial photograph for reference, we then built
a scale model of the Stockbridge neighborhood, encouraging any and all
to participate, or simply to observe.
The 5-hour performance was attended (and participated in) by GVSU faculty
and peers, and even by a few people off the street. Once completed,
the model was on display for one week and was lit 24 hours a day so
that it could be viewed by passers-by. Literally hundreds of photos
documenting the performance were displayed in a slideshow format on
a computer monitor in the window.
At the completion of the display, the model was dismantled, and its
destruction documented with digital video.
