Mental model

A mental model is a model in the mind. It is contained in our memory. I beleive we cannot do anything consciously without a mental model or image of our world. We breathe without thinking about it, but if you want to go from where you are at this instant to another place, you need some idea of where that other place is relative to where you are now. Will you go north or south, east or west? Will you walk or take a car or plane? If you are going from GVSU to Timbuktu, it is a long walk (plus a little swim in the Atlantic). Mental models are easily changed to make them more complete by learning or less complete by forgetting! You are at the store to buy curtains for the windows of your bedroom. Will you buy two panels or four? Stripes, polka dots, or a flowered print? Valance or no? Floor length or sill length? Your mental model of your room will help. The more details you remember, the better your choice will satisfy you after installation.
