Touchdown!

by Sarah Jen

Mike, Matt, where are you going? Playing football with the guys. CanIcome? Sure. Just another day in my past. When I was young enough to be read to and sit on laps but old enough to think I could hang out with my brothers, three and six years older than me. Let’s go, I’m coming. Hurry up! Hey guys. I’m captain. I’m the other. Bill. Todd. Jack. Matt. John. Tim. Paul. Hut! The football's up. I’m on whichever team I choose. I can do anything, tackle anyone. There are no rules for me. Over here! Touchdown! Oh no, I missed him. He got through. Not next time. Come over here, Sarah. I’m the QB this time. We’re gonna give you the ball and you have to run it, fast as you can, ok? Ok, I can do that. Hut! Here comes the ball. I’ve got it, I’m running. Why doesn’t anyone know I have the ball? Everyone’s running after that big guy. But I have the ball. Touchdown! I scored. Now we’ll go home with a win. Walk with my head up as one brother gloats and the other grudges.

The game was like our lives. Some winning, being successful and others losing miserably but have the chance to get ahead next time. Next game.
